Two 15-year-old Park Ridge boys are accused of offering a group of children marijuana while they played on a park playground Sunday.
Park Ridge Deputy Police Chief Lou Jogmen said a group of six children, ranging in age from 6 to 12, were at the Centennial Park playground, 100 S. Western Ave., on the afternoon of Dec. 7 when they reported being “harassed and chased off the playground” by two teenagers.
According to some of the children, the teens allegedly offered them marijuana, which the children told police they saw the two boys smoking, Jogmen said.
A Park Ridge Park District employee was alerted and contacted police, who located two 15-year-old boys near the playground matching the description of the individuals seen by the children, police said.
One of the boys was found to be in possession of a folding pocket knife known as a butterfly knife, as well as between 3 and 4 grams of suspected marijuana, Jogmen said. He was charged with possession of marijuana and released on his own recognizance pending a Jan. 13 Park Ridge adjudication hearing date.
The second teen was cited for possession of tobacco by a minor and also assigned to appear before the city’s adjudication hearing officer.
The police report did not provide further details on the alleged harassment, Jogmen said.
