A Michigan man allegedly locked his adult cousin in a dog cage inside an unincorporated Maine Township apartment.

William Bailey, 27, of Grand Rapids, Mich., was arrested Oct. 13 in Berrien County on a warrant issued by Cook County Sheriff’s Police.

A 47-year-old man reported to sheriff’s police on Sept. 30 that Bailey, his cousin, punched him and confined him to a dog cage inside his apartment on the 10000 block of Linda Lane, police said. The victim also accused Bailey of throwing hot wax on him and burning him with a cigarette lighter, police said.

The man was able to escape from the cage and sought help from a neighbor, who called police, sheriff’s police said. The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries, where police were contacted, they said.

Bailey allegedly fled the area in his cousin’s 1992 Toyota Camry and was still driving the car when he was apprehended in Michigan, police said.

Sheriff’s police said an argument between the two men preceded the alleged battery and confinement. Police did not say how long the victim was inside the cage.

Bailey was charged with aggravated domestic battery. He remains in custody in the Berrien County Jail, pending extradition, Cook County sheriff’s police said.
